Dependent visa will be closed from Jan 2024

On July 17, 2023, the UK government announced that it would be closing the dependent visa for international students from January 2024. This means that international students will no longer be able to bring their spouses or children to the UK with them on their student visas, unless they are studying a postgraduate research programme. The government said that the decision was made to reduce net migration to the UK. It said that the number of dependents of international students had increased by 750% since 2019, and that this was putting a strain on public services. The decision has been met with criticism from universities and student groups. They argue that it will make it more difficult for international students to study in the UK, and that it will damage the UK's reputation as a welcoming place to study.
